What to expect

Visit the Creswick Woollen Mills – “A Very Fine Yarn” showcasing the journey of fibre; all the way from its source on the alpaca, through the manufacturing process and how it ends up on the shop shelf. The exhibit gives a great insight into natural fibre, how luxurious fibres are processed. Meet out resident alpacas and purchase Australian products made right here at the Mill!

Visitors can see a $150,000 gold pour, ride in a horse-drawn carriage and watch street performers, including the Redcoat Soldiers who march and drill before firing muskets. For the adventurous, there are underground mine tours with an inclined tramway ride.

When the mew of gold was discovered at Sovereign Hill in 1851, thousands raced across the ocean to make their fortune. Grab a goldpan or a cradle to try your luck here, it’s “finders – Keepers”!

The buildings and shops, including hotels, bakery, theatre, pubs and school at Main Street were built to serve the diggers in the 1850s. Walk along the street or take a horse drawn coach ride to experience it.

The Gold Museum extends Sovereign Hill’s story of Ballarat as a majestic provincial city built on the wealth of the 1850’s gold rush. This surprisingly interesting museum houses a large collection of gold nuggets found at Ballarat.
