Melbourne City – Late Afternoon
Day 1: MELBOURNE – COLAC – WARRNAMBOOL – PORTLAND – MT GAMBIER
Depart from Melbourne, and travel up the Princes Highway to Colac. Fronting Murray Street within the heart of Colac is Memorial Square. This block of parkland has been dedicated to those who served in the First World War and features a striking stone memorial, fountain, rotunda, playground and BBQ facilities. Then move on to the West, travel along Highway to Warrnambool.
Warrnambool’s tourism benefits from the views from the Great Ocean Road, and its nearby beaches, some of which are used for surfing. In the winter months, Southern Right whales can be seen in the waters near the city at the Logan’s Beach nursery. After lunch (own expenses), head to South Australia’s border via Portland scenery route to arrive at Mt Gambier, the second most populated city in South Australia located just 17 kilometres from the Victorian border. Proceed to the Blue Lake for drive around the rim of the Blue Lake crater, stopping at the parking area near Rook Wall; Visit Umpherston Sinkhole which is also known as The Sunken Garden, was once a cave formed through dissolution of the limestone. The sinkhole was created when the top of the chamber collapsed downwards. Now the topsoil down on the floor of the cave forms the perfect environment for the sunken garden… Overnight stay in Mt Gambier.
Day 2: MT GAMBIER – ROBE – KINGSTON SE – ADELAIDE
After breakfast, check out and depart from hotel. Visit Cave Garden situated in the centre of the city. This sinkhole was the original source of water supply for the early settlers. Famous for its roses, the Cave Gardens is a great place for a picnic. Its beauty and significance can be appreciated from the viewing areas Enjoy walking up to the Centenary Tower which is located 190 metres above sea level and provides the best views of the city, its beautiful countryside and the volcanic landscape. Stop to experience the breathtaking scenery of the Valley Lake Crater, taking a walk through the Wildlife Park and Boardwalk
Proceed onward to Robe. Visit Chinese Monument located next to the enchanting beach. This monument commemorates the 16,500 Chinese who landed here and then walked approximately 320 kilometres to the goldfields of Ballarat and Bendigo. The monument consists of a ten foot high stone with pictures of a ship, spade, pick, gold pan, and of Chinese carrying their belongings on poles. A red “welcome gate” with beautiful calligraphy was erected on the beach behind the stone in 2017 to mark where the workers first stepped ashore.
Continue onward to Kingston SE to see the Big Lobster. It’s 17 metres high and weighs four tonnes! In the evening, arrive into Adelaide, this City has earned a well-deserved ‘green’ reputation, with a large number of environmentally-friendly initiatives and visitor experiences. Check in to your hotel in the evening.
Day 3: ADELAIDE – BAROSSA VALLEY – HAHNDORF – GLENEG BEACH – ADELAIDE
After breakfast, we will pass by the world renowned Barossa Valley for wine tasting. The Barossa Valley with its Bavarian villages, baroque Italianate Chateaux and stunning vineyard scenery gives a unique mix of Europe in Australia. Thereafter, proceed to German Village in Hahndorf. It’s lovely Main Street and many historic stone buildings containing fine art, craft, souvenir shops and restaurants, where you can taste the popular German sausages and pork hock.. After lunch, travel to Gleneg.. Adelaide’s most popular city beach, offering a buzzing vibe and great atmosphere for all to enjoy. Renowned for its wide beach, stunning sunsets, rich heritage, charming hotels and bustling shops, sidewalk cafés and loads of entertainment. Return to the CBD in late afternoon with free time to experience the city. You may go across the road to Adelaide Casino to try your luck, make your own way to Festival Centre, River Torrens, The Oval, Parliament House, Rundle Shopping Mall, City Hall, Victoria Square, Chinatown or even explore the only Tram line in Adelaide.
Days 4: ADELAIDE – BORDER TOWN – PINK LAKE – HORSHAM – ARARAT – MELBOURNE
After breakfast, check out and travel by coach to return to Melbourne via Border town. Bordertown is the birthplace of former Prime Minister of Australia, Bob Hawke. Visit Pink Lake near Dimboola, This lake is easily viewed from the rest-stop beside the highway and you can walk down the path to the edge of the lake.
Continue to Horsham for lunch. Stop at Ararat Gum San Chinese Museum. In 1855, to prevent Chinese going to the goldfields, the Victorian government placed a ten pound landing fee on all Chinese coming into the colony. As a result ships went instead to the port of Robe or Adelaide. These Chinese miners walked across the border to Ararat and discovered one of the world’s richest shallow alluvial goldfields, the Canton Lead. Ararat is the only city in Australia founded by the Chinese. Arriving back into Melbourne in the evening.

As with many tours, your day will start very early at around 7am; however, the sights you explore will make it all worth it. There will be multiple stops on the way to Adelaide city, including an overnight stay at Mount Gambier. This is before venturing out to Adelaide the next day, where you will enjoy 2 nights at a luxury central city hotel.
